A Space to Breathe, Move, and Begin Again
Mornings offer a chance to begin afresh with steadiness, intention, and care. Our self-practice sessions near Croydon invite you into a quiet, supportive environment where you can explore Ashtanga yoga in your own time, at your own pace.
Whether you’re building a regular practice, returning after time away, or continuing a well-established routine, this is a space that meets you where you are.
What Is Self-Practice?
Rooted in the Mysore tradition of Ashtanga yoga, self-practice invites students to move through a memorised sequence independently. Rather than following a teacher’s instructions moment to moment, you follow your own breath and rhythm, while a teacher offers individual guidance and adjustments where needed. This approach encourages you to go inwards and to access meditation through movement.
This way of practising cultivates focus, resilience, and self-awareness. You learn to listen closely to your breath, your body, and your mind.
For All Levels of Experience
You don’t need to be advanced or even familiar with ashtanga self-practice to attend. Beginners are gently supported to build confidence, learning sequences step by step with patient one-to-one help. For experienced practitioners, the space offers a consistent, peaceful container for ongoing exploration and refinement.
There’s no pressure to complete a full sequence. No need to be perfect. Just come as you are, and move with honesty, reflection and awareness.
A Quiet Morning Community
Located within easy reach of Croydon, the studio opens early to allow time for reflection and settling in. Some choose to start with breathwork or stillness; others arrive ready to begin their asana practice. Everyone shares the space quietly, creating a steady rhythm that supports both focus and ease.
Hands-on support is available but never intrusive. You’ll be encouraged when needed and left to Practice when you’re ready to be on your own.
testimonials
My introduction to Ashtanga last year was truly a revelation and I cannot thank the team enough, especially Gingi. He has managed to surround himself with great people who share his passion and I feel so lucky to be taught by him. All the teachers I have met are incredibly kind and welcoming. Every teacher is different, every practice is different, every day is different, but no matter which practice I do, I will always leave the Shala happier

A Practice That Becomes Your Own
Over time, self-practice becomes more than a routine. It becomes a way to anchor your day, a time for self-inquiry, discipline, and gentle presence. Without the distractions of a led class, you’ll begin to notice new layers of awareness and possibility in your body and mind.
For those in Croydon seeking a deeper, more personal connection to yoga, these sessions offer a quiet invitation: to begin your day without the rush, but with steadiness, breath, and clarity.
